I am so looking forward to a new year of painting workshops across North America. With old acquaintances from past workshops and meeting new energetic painters that want to grow their abilities.
Lots of great locations for artists to retreat and refresh their creative energies. Warm climates in the cold time of year. Cooler weather for the hot and roasty times of the year. Cool breezes from a marsh or sea to refresh the air. Western getaways for the cowboy or cowgirl in everyone of us.
I enjoy working with artists at all levels of experience. Workshops include demonstrations, critiques and lots of individual help. Artists are encouraged to expand upon their current levels of understanding and become more comfortable applying new concepts and principles to move their art forward.

The west offers many aesthetic vistas, even one of Maynard’s favorite mountains to Zion National Park, Red Canyon and Brice Canyon with lots of old west in between. Open to interpretive and traditional plein air painting styles we will explore field studies with a painting knife and brush. From creating dynamic compositions, mixing rich colors, and capturing fleeting light and shadow with lively paint, many factors come into play when painting outdoors. All levels welcome, painting experience required. |
Schedule: Lodging: Students must find their own lodging in the area.There are 3 spots to bunk at the Maynard Dixon location. The cost is $75/night in addition to the workshop. This must be reserved with Daryl Urig in advance of the workshop along with payment.

This very expressive type of painting uses marks to signify emotion at the moment the paint is applied to the painting's surface. It describes visible characteristics and intangible essence of a figure in gestural abstraction. Action painting relies on the physical movement of the artist. Paint what you need, leave the rest for interpretation. It is the essence of figure. |

You will be amazed at the difference it will make in your paintings. This artist retreat will emphasize drawing and painting with a painting knife or brush. With friendly guidance and critiques to guide painters in developing their proficiency and painting style. While enjoying day trips and making new friends with other dedicated painters of different experience levels to making memories that will last a lifetime. |

Fourty days before a workshop there are no refunds. It is recommended that you purchase travel insurance which can protect you by refunding monies paid if you need to cancel your trip due to an emergency.
